We mourn the passing of Elliot D. Samuelson, Esq., a distinguished attorney and widely respected leader in matrimonial and family law. For more than five decades, Elliot Samuelson was a passionate advocate for individuals and families navigating divorce and family-related matters. His intellect, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to his clients earned him the admiration of the bench and bar. He was regarded by colleagues as a true legend in the field.

Mr. Samuelson’s contributions to the legal profession were profound. He served as President of the New York chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Family Law Section, and Chair of the Nassau County Bar Association’s Matrimonial and Family Law Committee. He was also the longtime Editor of the NYSBA’s Family Law Review, where he authored the lead article of every publication for over 30 years. He was also instrumental in advancing professionalism, ethics, and mentorship within the legal community, including his role as the Founder and President of the New York Family Law American Inn of Court.

A prolific author, Mr. Samuelson wrote numerous influential works on matrimonial and family law, including but not limited to

Elliot’s daughter, Wendy Samuelson, a matrimonial and family law attorney for more than 30 years, continues his legacy and leads the firm of Samuelson Hause PLLC. Elliot is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bea Samuelson, son and daughter-in-law Lee and Pam Samuelson, son-in-law (Wendy’s husband), Jeff Winick, and 3 grandchildren: Robert, Dani and Maya Samuelson. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd and the family will sit shiva for a week.
